After over a year away, the standing metal Buddha statue that greeted visitors as they drove into Tisarana is now back, shinier than ever. Last year it was observed that the statue was beginning to form large cracks in certain areas, and the outer layer was showing wear from the sun and weather. A dedicated supporter in Ottawa volunteered to fix it and after a year of hard work, it was ready to be put back up. Sadhu, Anumodana.

On the occasion of Vesak, the Tisarana community wishes you and your family life’s choicest blessings. Legend has it that the full moon night of the month of Vesakha witnessed the birth, enlightenment and final release of the Buddha.
Recollecting the life and teachings of the Buddha inspires and uplifts our hearts, spurring us on along the path. The simplicity, universality and timelessness of his teachings brings acceptance to the way things are.

Luang Por offers some words expressing his appreciation for the community being diligent and living in such harmony. We hope you enjoy the chanting and photos.

We’ve started a plain-vanilla blog, probably the closest we’ll get to social media. Here you might find occasional posts by various monastery residents about monastery life, including a kick-off post today by Tan Khemako. You can find it under the “News” menu item at the top of the site, or here.… Read the rest

Many of you might have seen a number of these, but they give a good insight into where our tradition came from, and what life was like for the early Sangha.
