Padīpo Bhikkhu (Daniel Nyssen) was born and raised in Mexico City. At the age of 20, he took his first meditation course and developed a deep interest in the practice. After completing his university studies and working in his family’s environmental consulting business for a few years, he traveled to India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka for a year to deepen his practice in the Goenka Vipassana tradition. Upon returning to Mexico, he became a frequent visitor to Dhamma Vihara, a Theravada Buddhist monastery in the state of Veracruz. He came to reside at the monastery in December 2021, taking the Anagarika precepts shortly after in January 2022. In June 2023, he was ordained as a Sāmaṇera (novice), and on July 7, 2024, he was accepted into the Bhikkhu Sangha with Luang Por Viradhammo as his preceptor.
