Another winter retreat has been successfully completed at Tisarana, thanks to the invaluable support of our beloved lay stewards. As well as reestablishing our usual routines, there are a number of upcoming events that bear mention:
The Winter Retreat was a very peaceful and rewarding time. This is only made possible by the dedication of the lay stewards who support the monastery by staying here during that time. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who offered their support by staying with us this year:
We would also like to express our appreciation for the the many families who came to practice dāna by offering food to the resident Sangha.
The Annual General Meeting of Tisarana Buddhist Monastery will be held at Tisarana on May 11 from 1-2pm. This is a yearly gathering required by charity law. The meeting consists of:
All are welcome to attend.
Venerable Ajahn Sumedho, the senior western disciple of Ajahn Chah, will be residing at Tisarana Buddhist Monastery from June 14th to June 23rd. As most of his time will be spent in self-retreat, if you wish to experience his presence you are encouraged to come to the Gratitude to Parents Day.
June 21st is “Gratitude to Parents Day” at Tisarana Buddhist Monastery. This is an annual gathering performed either here at Tisarana or at Sati Saranīya Hermitage. It is an occasion for us to recollect our parents and dedicate merit for the sake of their well-being. It is also an opportunity to express respect and gratitude to Venerable Ajahn Sumedho during his 80th year. As usual, there will be a potluck meal at 11am. As part of this year’s event, there will also be a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Sumedho.
Nathan Krahn, one of the lay stewards who assisted with supporting the winter retreat, has received ordination as an Anagārika (postulant). He will be joining the monastic community for a one-year period of preliminary monastic training.
Now that the winter retreat is over, Ajahn Vīradhammo will be offering a number of teaching events throughout the year. When plans for each event are finalized, they will be indicated on our Calendar and Teaching Events webpages.
As the workers continue to make progress on constructing our new Bhikkhu Vihāra, we’ve uploaded a selection of photographs showing its current state; these photos can be found here. There is also a large gallery of assorted photographs from the 2014 Winter Retreat available here.
